The Discovery of the Orgone
Wilhelm Reich discovered the orgone energy in Norway in the late nineteen thirties and elaborated on this discovery in the forties after he had moved to the United States. This discovery is not acknowledged by orthodox science and you will rarely find information about it in ordinary science histories and reference books. If you are seriously interested in learning about this discovery you must be very cautious in the sources that you consult. If there is any information about Reich or orgonomy in a reference work it is very likely to be ill-informed and highly critical. Much of the information contained in entries in such books is often simply inaccurate and has clearly been supplied by writers who know very little about Reich or orgonomy.
Almost all of the experiments and observations on which Reich based his claims have been replicated and confirmed by researchers working independently of each other in different countries. As far as we know at C O R E there are no cases where serious researchers hostile to orgonomy have repeated any of Reich's experiments or observations and found them to be inaccurate or false. The FDA's 'tests' of the orgone accumulator carried out to support their case against him have been made public and shown to be careless, superficial and of no scientific value. (See Appendices 8 and 9 in Wilhelm Reich vs the USA by Jerome Greenfield, 1974, Norton, New York.)
There are several experiments and observations that confirm Reich's discovery. Some of these are not difficult to repeat and do not demand expensive scientific equipment. There are other more complex experiments and observations that Reich based his discoveries on, in particular the bion experiments. See Three Experiments with the Microscope for the Amateur Orgonomist for an introduction, if you cannot obtain access to a copy of Reich's own text, The Bion Experiments on the Origin of Life. (Booklets) These experiments require the use of a biological microscope with a minimum magnification of x1000. All these observations and experiments are reported on in Reich's classic text The Cancer Biopathy and also elsewhere in the orgonomic literature. In particular see The Orgone Accumulator Handbook by James DeMeo PhD. This is available in several different languages.
Temperature rise in the human organism in the orgone accumulator. If you can obtain access to a full-size orgone accumulator, you can take your temperature or that of a volunteer: sit in the accumulator for half an hour or so and retake your temperature then. Unless atmospheric conditions are very poor (damp with low-pressure weather) you will observe a small rise in your or your volunteer's body temperature. Of course a single occasion could be a chance occurrence, but you will find you can make this observation reliably and repeatedly, time after time.
Seed-germination in a small orgone accumulator. If you can make a small accumulator, with, say, a cubic foot's internal capacity, you can allow a tray of seeds to germinate in this while also allowing a control tray of identical seedlings with identical surroundings and water-supply at the same time. The seeds germinated in the accumulator will germinate more quickly than the controls and produce larger seedlings. The successful germination rate of the accumulator seeds will be higher than the controls. Many different orgonomists have repeated this experiment and reported on it. See C O R E's booklet on the experiment for further information. (Booklets)
